Snorkeling Surin

Dec 13, 2012

This morning we are met by Karen and she takes us across the road to the morning market. We sample a variety of the local fare and have some really good coffee. Soon afterwards our truck arrives to take us to Khura Buri pier. We enjoy the short ride with a couple of nice young Thai girls who are also coming on the snorkeling trip to the Surin islands. We board the speedboat and set out at full throttle for the islands. The sea is a bit choppy today and the ride is a bit rough, but after about an hour and a half we finally arrive at the one of the bays around Surin and go for our first dive. Simply amazing. I could write a whole blog on this but lets just say it was awesome . Let the pictures speak. We stop in to visit a Moken village which is quite a sight. These people live off the sea and are still pretty primitive, but manage to get by and sell some of their handicrafts to the tourists to bring in some extra income. We have another amazing dive then head to the national park headquarters for lunch. Since this is where we will be staying for the next two nights, we unload our gear and are shown our tent. Right on the beach. Simply gorgeous. Back out on the boat for a couple more dives, then a longtail boat comes and picks us up to take us back to the island. We chill here for a bit and do a little fooling around on the bay outside our tent. We watch a couple of Macques playing on the trees above us. The staff here prepares a nice dinner and we retire early, ready to do it again tomorrow.
